North Dakota Parks & Recreation Department Press Release For Immediate Release North Dakota Snowmobile Laws Snowmobile North Dakota and the North Dakota Parks & Recreation Department is excited to announce the opening the northern snowmobile trail systems. Thanks for your patience and cooperation with our organizations as we worked with the trail systems to open and maintain the trail systems.At this time our offices would like to remind all snowmobile enthusiasts of the importance to follow North Dakotas snowmobile laws. It is a privilege to operate and have the snowmobile trails throughout the state, so lets do our best to respect the trail system.Remember the following laws when operating near a highway and/or interstate crossing: 1. No one may operate a snowmobile on a roadway, shoulder, or inside bank of a right of way. 2. No one may operate a snowmobile within an interstate right of way. 3. If operating within the right of way of a highway you must obey the posted speed limit. 4. If operating within the right of way of a highway you must ride in the same direction as motor vehicles on that highway. 5. You may not operate a snowmobile in the right of way of a highway between April 1st November 1st. 6. No snowmobile may operate within the right of way of a highway while towing a sled or any other object unless connected with a hinged swivel & secure hitch. 7. When crossing a highway or street the rider must come to a complete stop. 8. When crossing a highway or street the rider must yield to the right of way of oncoming traffic. 9. When crossing a divided highway the crossing must be made at an intersection that of that with another street or highway. 10. The crossing of a highway or street must be made at a 90 degree angle. 11. A snowmobile may cross an interstate highway when it is done on an underpass or overpass to the extreme right side unless signed otherwise.
