The Nor'wester; KINGS POINT- When Alma Guy heard the snowmobile association wasnt going to put groomed trials through Green Bay because there wasnt a spokesperson, there was only one thing to do. She got in her car, drove from Rattling Brook to Baie Verte and volunteered to be the areas representation. A widow and retiree, Ms. Guy didnt know much about snowmobile trails then and didnt even own one herself but she says the area shouldnt be punished because of her lack of experience. It had nothing to do with me not having a snowmobile, she says. [Trail riders] wouldve had to pass Green Bay and go to Howley for a connection. It was good for the kids and the community. And thats Alma Guy in a nutshell. A devoted volunteer for near 40 years, Ms. Guy says if there was some way she could help someone, why wouldnt she do it. Born and raised in Kings Point, Ms. Guy says her first volunteering was with the church and the womens lodge. When she moved to Ontario in the seventies, she volunteered with the blood clinic twice a week for 10 years and also tailored all the uniforms for her childrens cadet corps every fall. Think again. Last week Mr. Langdon, who offers sea kayaking tours of Notre Dame Bay and the Bay of Exploits and certification training courses, started receiving e-mails from people opposed to the seal hunt.
