March 10, 2006. Manitoba MA MAN Canada snowmobile news story; Several members of the unit responded to the call including McLeod, Dave Prochyshyn, Warren Brinkman, Dale Madison and Barry Bennett. McLeod said the two riders were part of a group of seven from Manitoba who had travelled into Kenora by snowmobile that night via the northern route through Halleys Camp. They gassed up in Kenora and were using Lake of the Woods to get to a cottage on Clearwater Bay. One of the riders
went through the ice in Golf Course Bay, near the Coast Guard Base, and
sunk his machine. However, the man was wearing a floatation suit and managed
to get back to solid ice unharmed. more

'Way Out Women' snowmobile across Manitoba Last Updated Feb 9 2006 03:48 PM CST CBC News Three women taking part in a cross-country snowmobile ride to raise money for breast-cancer research entered Manitoba from Ontario Thursday. The "Way Out Women' relay began in St. John's, Nfld. at the beginning of January. Three women ride across each province before turning the machines over to the next group. The Manitoba women are covering a bit of extra ground; they took over from their Ontario counterparts in Thunder Bay on Tuesday. Gisele Remillard, national co-ordinator of the ride and one of the Manitoba riders, says the team will take a slightly winding tour through Manitoba, hitting Lac du Bonnet, Gimli, Portage la Prairie, Minnedosa and Russell by Sunday. "The Saskatchewan team is going to meet us in Russell, where we're going to hand over the keys to the sleds to them and they're going to continue," she said by satellite phone outside Kenora, Ont. Thursday morning. Remillard is joined on the journey by Gimli resident Cindy McRae and Kathy Nadoryk of Cooks Creek. The tour is scheduled to wrap up in White Rock, B.C. on March 7. Remillard hopes the ride will raise at least $200,000. |

2006-02-22; WPSA Powersports Snowmobile Tour To Light Up Winnipeg As Snocross Racing Invades Canwest Global Park A buzz will be in the air this weekend as the WPSA PowerSports Snowmobile Tour makes its inaugural visit to CanWest Global Park in downtown Winnipeg for the Winnipeg Snocross race. The event, Round 7 of the 2005-2006 Championship, is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday Feb. 25-26. Racing begins both days at 9 a.m. CST. The race could well be the turning point for the title chase as a full slate of professional and amateur racing is on tap at the baseball park. The race will be telecast March 3 on ESPN2 at 2 p.m. EST. Approximately 2.3 million gallons (8,706,420 liters) of water was turned into 18,500 tons (16,783 metric tons) of snow for the race, which is being staged on the baseball field, used in the summer by the Winnipeg Goldeyes. Leading the charge into the Canadian prairie is Wisconsin native Ross Martin. Martin (No. 837 Judnick Motorsports-Dupont/Polaris) padded his Pro Open points lead with a second-place finish last weekend at Valcourt, Quebec, and now holds a 26-point lead in the title chase, ahead of Robbie Malinoski. Martin has two Pro Open wins this season, as well as two additional podiums. In addition, Martin has two Pro Stock wins. Meanwhile, over in the Pro Stock ranks, Malinoski (No. 4 Olah Racing/Arctic Cat) used a combination of great finishes and Martins bad fortune at Valcourt to move up eight positions, taking the points lead. Malinoski, who earned a season best second-place Pro Stock finish at Valcourt, currently holds a four-point lead over Kurtis Crapo (No. 9 Speedwerx/Arctic Cat) in the title chase. Martin sits third, five points back. On a tear lately has been the unlikely dark horse in the Snocross field, 11-time WPSA titleholder Blair Morgan. Morgan (No. 7c Blair Morgan Racing Team/Ski-Doo), who ran the first three races of the season sidelined by a badly broken thumb suffered in pre-season testing, is coming off a sweep at Valcourt. The Pro Stock and Pro Open wins last weekend, bring the Prince Albert, Saskatchewan residents overall win total this season to three. Morgan now sits eighth in Pro Open points and 11th in the Pro Stock standings. read full Manitoba snowmobile racing story here... |
