*Iowa Snowmobile Clubs Reminded to GPS Their Trails* yet this Winter Working with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IDNR), the ISSA is reminding its member-clubs to plot their trail map coordinates for use with the Global Positioning System (GPS) before the season ends.According to ISSA President Terry Durby, digitizing trail maps is essential to creating a statewide network of trails and to make it easier for non-local snowmobilers to find their way around the fields, ditches and wood river bottoms of Iowa. The ISSA currently owns seven handheld Magellan Meridian Gold GPS units, and they are available for use by member-clubs. Reserve one today by contacting your respective ISSA Region Director. Instructions (.pdf) for plotting a trail map with GPS technology are available here. Completed maps and downloads should be emailed to either Durby or to Molly Oliverson at the IDNR. May 15 Deadline for Submitting 2006 ISSA Award Nomination Forms; Nominations for 2006 for the ISSA’s annual awards program are due to Awards Committee Chair Dave Carmichael by May 15. Forms and instructions for submitting candidates for consideration are available here. Only current ISSA members are eligible to win and to complete nominations. The winners will be judged by a non-partisan panel this summer and announced at the Awards Banquet of the 2006 ISSA Annual Convention Nov. 18 in Waterloo. Their nominations will then be forwarded to the national competition sponsored by the American Council of Snowmobile Associations in June of 2007. The ISSA awards program is specifically designed to recognize the outstanding efforts and accomplishments of Iowa snowmobilers. Photos, letters of support, newspaper clippings, videos and other items may be used to support your nominees. Completed nominations may be returned either by mail or electronically. Let’s make 2006 a banner year for awards.” ISSA Instructions for Digital Trail Mapping; Roughly 85 Iowa snowmobile club members attended the ISSA's Groomer Operator Certification Workshop Jan. 7 at the Delaware County Fairgrounds in Manchester. Following lunch, ISSA members presented a plaque of appreciation to Iowa Rep. Steven Lukan, R-New Vienna, for his efforts supporting snowmobile-friendly legislation at the Statehouse in Des Moines.
